  • Luck (chance):  Kerry's off the cuff remark?
  • Was/Is the military threat credible?
  • Dithering does not (usually) equal deterrence, but did dithering contribute to leading to a potential solution (though people are still skeptical and rightly so – but is there a diplomatic opportunity?)
  • Did reason/rational control (by the Russians?) counter the hate, enmity, and greed of the situation?
  • Did a credible military threat enable diplomacy?
  • Would Clausewitz approve?  Would Sun Tzu approve?  If so why and if not why not?
